A Bit of History

The growth story of University of Hyderabad on a timeline

The Golden Threshold

The Golden Threshold, the University's first home in the heart of Hyderabad

The University of Hyderabad (UoH) was born in 1974 in ‘The Golden Threshold’ (GT), in the heart of the city, which was bequeathed to the university by Sarojini Naidu’s family. Built in an Indo-European style of architecture, with huge Islamic-style arches, and a colonial-style colonnaded verandah, the Golden Threshold housed the university until it moved into its sprawling 2,500 acres campus. Today the university is the most sought after place for higher studies in the region.

Golden Threshold also housed the Sarojini Naidu School of Performing Arts, Fine Arts and Communication, the only school in the university to be named after an individual. Currently, the Centre for Distance and Virtual Learning functions from its premises. The university has developed the place into a cultural hub.
