About the school

The School of Mathematics and Statistics has been part of the University of Hyderabad for close to five decades. It began in February 1978 as a department and was constituted as a School in its own right on 22 January 2013.

Sixteen faculty members work here, in areas spanning algebra, analysis, geometry, number theory, differential equations, dynamical systems and statistics, with research collaborations across India and abroad. The School offers a five-year Integrated M.Sc. in Mathematical Sciences, two-year M.Sc. programmes in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, and doctoral programmes in all three subjects.

Teaching here stays close to research. Students work with faculty who are active in their fields, and have access to the library recognised by the National Board for Higher Mathematics as a regional library. Each year our graduates qualify for national research fellowships and go on to doctoral and postdoctoral work at leading institutions in India and abroad.
