The Office of the Dean, Students' Welfare looks after the welfare of the students with active support from the elected representatives of the students, faculty and administration.
Caters to the students interests and promotes cultural and sports activities as per the Constitution of the Students' Union, elections are conducted by the students themselves to the students' union (Tel No. 23132640).
An Election Commission shall oversee the election proceedings of the Students' Union.
All powers relating to discipline and disciplinary action in relation to the students of the University are vested in the Vice-Chancellor.
The Central Disciplinary-cum-Grievance Committee deals with Students' discipline, complaints of students relating to attendance, assessment, etc., referred to it by the School/Departmental Grievance Committee or by the Vice-Chancellor and any other matter concerning students as may be referred to it by the Vice-Chancellor.
Ragging, use of drugs, drug trafficking and eve teasing are criminal offences, and strictly forbidden in the University. Persons found indulging in such activities will be subjected to strict disciplinary and other action as per the law of the land. Indulging in any criminal activity within or outside the University and any physical violence against fellow students and fellow residents will not be tolerated in any form and attract stern disciplinary action including rustication.
The Anti Ragging Committee has been constituted in accordance with the guidelines of the Supreme Court. Dean, Students' Welfare is the Chairman (Mobile: 9866699983) and Prof. Tutun Mukherjee, is the Convenor (Mobile: 9948093391). Other members include Chief Warden , Deputy Chief Warden, all Wardens, and a Representative from Students' Union.
As suggested by the U.G.C., a Committee has been constituted wherein D.S.W, Lady Warden, Women Faculty Members, Women Students, Students' Union, Teachers' and Officers' Association representatives, to combat the menace of violence and sexual harassment against women on the Campus.

All the students are hereby informed that the University Health Centre (Phone No.2400) managed by a team of doctors, supported by nurses / para medical staff caters to the basic O.P. Treatment with few beds for emergency inpatient treatment. Specialists such as Ophthalmologist, Orthopedician, Physiotherapist and Psychiatrist will be available on specific days. The services of a Student Counsellor is available near the Chief Warden office. Ambulance (108) is available, round-the-clock for emergency purposes.
At the time of admission every student shall submit a physical fitness certificate and also an undertaking to the Health Centre, signed by the parent / guardian to the effect that "any hospitalization / medical treatment expenses shall be borne by the parents / guardians of the student concerned and the university is not responsible for treating the major diseases / ailment occurred while pursuing studies in the University".
However, the University will assist them in providing a Medical Insurance Card (valid for one year( from a standard insurance company, which they may use for hospitalization (cashless facility) under Intimation / approval of the Insurance Co. Otherwise, the Student pays the hospital bill first and then submits a claim to the Insurance Co. (through their Desk Officer at the Health Centre) to reimburse the eligible amount for the approval given for treating specified disease / ailment. For the year 2009-10, M/s. United India Insurance Ltd., has issued Medical Insurance Cards to cover medical expenses upto Rs.50,000/- for the specified / approved treatments. The students may collect their Medical Insurance Cards from the Health Centre/ Dean / HOD Offices. Students whose insurance cards are not received / who joined the University late or in January session may approach CMO in-charge Health Centre for inclusion of their names in Medical Insurance scheme and obtain the Insurane cards.
Students should not indulge in any activity that disturbs the normal activities of the University Health Centre. Any such distrubance caused by students will be treated as indiscipline and dealt with sternly.
Sri Rajiv Velicheti, Reader, Theatre Arts, SN School (Tel: 23135525) is the Cultural Coordinator to coordinate and oversee the Cultural activities. Students of the University may conduct cultural activities in collaboration with other organizations such as SPICMACAY
Besides, a number of Cultural and literary activities, University of Hyderabad Students' Annual festival (SUKOON) will be held at the end of every Academic year. The Dean, S.N. School is the chairman of the SUKOON committee (Tel: 23135500)
Our University has a multipurpose playground on the Campus for games such as Cricket, football, volleyball, ball-badminton, tennis, basketball and athletic events. Modern facilities for physical conditioning are available at the New Indoor Gymnasium along with facilities for Table tennis, Shuttle badminton, Chess and Caroms. Both intramural and extramural competitions are planned in such a way that students are able to regularly participate in games and sports activities throughout the year. The University is also a member of the Inter University Sports board of India and its teams participate in Zonal and All-India Inter University Tournaments regularly, apart from this the department also organizes annual inter school competitions to inspire the student community to involve in physical games and improve their health status. Dr. K.V. Rajasekhar is the Assistant Director of Physical Education (Tel: 23132440) and Prof. B. V. Sharma, Dean, Students' Welfare is the Chairman, Sports Board.
There is a Yoga Centre in our University with regular Yoga Instructors, Mr. M. Mallakarjuna Reddy and Ms. Saritha Devi. The Yoga classes are conducted at Old Sports Shed.
The Dean, Students' Welfare recommends for sanction of, financial assistance as and when he receives requests from the students for educational and sports tours, such requests have to be routed through the concerned Head of the Department and Dean of the School.
We have students drawn from various countries like, Iran, Myanmar, Thailand, Mongolia, Lesotho, Syria, Tanzania, Yemen, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, Japan and Sri Lanka. The Dean, Students' Welfare is also the Advisor for International Students.
The Placement Guidance and Advisory Bureau located in the Students Services Complex, publicize information about employment opportunities and makes information available to the students. Placement talks are arranged and facilities are provided for Campus interviews. A large number of students have been able to secure good jobs in some of the reputed national and multinational companies and institutions.
Every year, after completion of new admissions, Orientation Programmer for Fresher students is organized. The Office of the Dean, Students' Welfare also brings to the notice of the students various circulars and programme details regarding the students' future career guidance, received from various Institutions and Universities in India and abroad from time to time through Students' Information Bureau (Tel. No. 23132640) located at Students' Union Building.
Fellowships for Research Studies:
UGC JRFs pursuing their research work leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences are paid a fellowship of Rs.12,OOO/- p.m. for the first two years and Rs.14,OOO/- p.m. for the subsequent years. Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowships sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice for SC/ST candidates to pursue M. Phil and Ph.D.; Degrees: The SC/ST Scholars enrolled for Ph.D. and M. Phil programmes in the University have to apply for this Fellowship as and when the University Grants Commission issues the Notification. The value of JRF is Rs.12000/- p.m. for the first two years and Rs.14,OOO/- p.m. for the subsequent years.
The CSIR JRF's pursuing research are paid a fellowship of Rs.12,QOO/- p.m. for a period of two years which may be increased to Rs.14,OOO/- p.m. for the subsequent years.
Fellowships from other sources:
In addition to the above, provision exists for securing JRF s/SRF s .in various research projects/direct fellowships being operated in the University financed by Govt. Agencies and other Organizations such as the UGC; CSIR, DST, DAE, ICMR, ICSSR, NBHM, etc. JRF test qualified candidates admitted to M.Phil. and Ph.D. program may apply for these positions in response to the notice issued by the project investigator.
Post Graduate Merit Scholarship Scheme for University Rank holders at graduate level:
The University Grants Commission on the basis of a recent initiative of MHRD, has introduced the Post- Graduate Merit Scholarship for University Rank Holders (in General and Honours courses at University levels). The selection will be purely on Merit basis. The value of each scholarship is Rs.2,OOO/- p.m. and duration is for 2 years.
Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme for single girl child: The University Grants Commission, on the basis of a recent initiative of MHRD, has introduced the Post- Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child as an incentive for the parents to observe small family norms. The value of each scholarship is Rs.2,OOO/- p.m. and duration is for 2 years.
NOTE: Applications for UGC sponsored Scholarships are invited by the UGC through Press Notification. Students are advised to watch for advertisement in News Papers and respond accordingly.
M.Sc. Biotechnology Scholarships: The students admitted to M.Sc. Biotechnology are eligible for scholarship @ Rs.1200/ per month for the entire duration of the course (i.e. 2 academic years) funded by the Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India.
Financial assistance from other sources: The students of the University are also eligible to apply for the award of the following Scholarships given by the Govt. of India and the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh subject to their fulfilling the conditions prescribed in each case. NOTE: Decision regarding the University scholarships, is generally taken up October each year by way of notification inviting application. Payment of these scholarships can, therefore, be made only after announcement of the list of selected students. However, payment of scholarships awarded / funded by other agencies like UGC, CSIR, AICTE, can be made only after receipt of the sanction and scholarship amounts by the University (Section Officer Tel. The liberally has a collect of more than 3 lakhs books & back volumes of journals. The library subscribes to around 700 periodicals, popular magazines & news papers in English and Indian language. The library also subscribes to over 18,000 e-Journals from several publishers with the help of UGC-INFONET. Important text books and a small collection of books purchased under SC/ST grants are kept in a book bank in a separate room. The library has a separate reading room which is kept open round -the-clock for the benefit of the students.
The National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) has recognized this library as a "Regional Library" for Mathematics and provides financial support for the acquisition of Mathematics journals for advanced research. The Library is an active member of the UGC-INFLIBNET program and has been identified as one of the six Document Delivery Centres in the country. It is also an Institutional member of National Institute of Rural Development Library (NIRD). The University library has achieved several distinctions in the country for application of IT. It is the first University Library in India to computerize all its in house operations and services; the first to cater information services to all Schools/Departments via the Campus-wide Local Area Network; the first University Library to subscribe to electronic journals; the first library in undertaking the computerization programs of other libraries on a turnkey basis; the first to become the governing council member of the OCLC, USA; the first in installing an Electronic security gate with magnetic detector; the first in starting a Post-Graduate Diploma course in Library Automation and Networking (PGDLAN); and its is the First Library to start Digitization of books in India.
The library is open throughout the year except on national holidays Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Holi, Dussera and Diwali. It functions from 8.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. on all working days and from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on Sundays and other Holidays. In the beginning of every academic year, the library organizes User Orientation Program for the new entrants (i.e. students) of the University, to enable them to make use of the library resources and services efficiently.
Round the clock security is provided in the campus by the Chief Security Officer, Mr. T.V. Rao and Assistant Security Officers (Tel: 23132424 and 23132425).
