Eligibility requirements for admission

A prospective international student has to fulfill the eligibility conditions, including the required qualifying degree and marks/grades, as prescribed for Indian students. These conditions can be found in the prospectus which is available on the University website. In case a student's parent University does not have a program which is prescribed as minimum eligibility condition, an equivalent program may be considered. In this respect, the decision of the Admission Committee of the respective department/School is final.

Last date for submission of filled-in application:

International students may apply for admission anytime during the year. However, the deadline for being considered for any academic year (which generally begins in mid-July) is April 1 of that year. The decision of Admissions Committee will be intimated to the candidate by May 31.

Documents to be submitted at the time of application

  2. Transcripts from High School onwards with certified English translation, if the documents are in any other language;
  3. Two letters of recommendation from their present teachers may be sent in sealed envelopes or by e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ;
  4. TOEFL/IELTS/GRE score cards, if required*
  5. Research proposal (for those seeking admission to Ph.D. program);
  6. Proof of adequate financial support or scholarship.

English proficiency:
Proof of English proficiency is essential for a candidate who is not a graduate from a University located in an English-speaking country. Such a candidate has to provide one of the following two scores. The score should not be older than two years

i. International English Language Testing System (IELTS)-Academic version-minimum score of 6.5 is required.
ii. Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL)

  1. Paper-based TOEFL: a minimum score of 560 is required.
  2. Computer-based TOEFL: a minimum score of 220 is required.
  3. Internet-based TOEFL: a minimum score of 80 is required.

Additional requirements for Computer Sciences:

Foreign candidates seeking admission to M.Tech. (CS/AI/IT) program are exempted from the GATE qualification.


  1. GRE score is to be submitted at the time of application.
  2. Students residing in India have to appear for an Interview.

Additional requirements for M.Tech. Bioinformatics, Integrated Ph.D. Biotechnology and Ph.D. Biotechnology programs:
1. Candidates should have GRE score:
        a. Verbal Reasoning score, at least 500;
        b. Quantitative Reasoning score, at least 500;
        c. An Analytical Writing score, at least 4;
        d. Subject score with at least 600 and sub-score in Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, at least 60
2. If the candidate is available in India, he/she will be required to appear for an interview. Letters of recommendation should clearly mention the knowledge of candidate in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.

At the Time of Admission

A candidate selected for admission is required to report to Personal Assistant, Office of International Affairs, SIP Building, South Campus of the University with the following documents, in original, along with one photocopy of each document. Certified English translation of the documents have to be provided, in case the documents are in any language other than English.

a. All the certificates and transcripts in different examinations;
b. Passport and Visa;
c. Medical fitness certificate from a recognized hospital;
d. Health Insurance Policy.

Besides, the candidate is also required to pay the fee prescribed for International Students. The present fee structure can be found in the prospectus which is on the University Website. The University reserves the right to change the fee structure whenever necessary.

Registration at the Foreigner's Registration Office (F.R.O).

International students must register with the Foreigner's Registration Office (F.R.O.) within 14 days of their arrival in India. It is extremely important that the International Students register with the Foreigner's Registration Office (F.R.O.) within the stipulated period. The Foreigner's Registration Office (F.R.O.) shall register International students and issue them a residential permit which is normally valid for a period of one year and should be renewed 15 days before its expiry date. The documents needed at the time of registration are:

  • A provisional eligibility letter;
  • Passport with an endorsed Student/Research Visa;
  • Passport size photograph;
  • Bona fide Certificate & Residential Proof;
  • Obtain a HIV certificate from any recognized hospital on arrival.

Orientation Programme

The Office of International Affairs organizes an orientation programme for all fresh international students. The orientation programme is designed to:

  • Make them feel at home, and assist them to settle in before commencement of classes;
  • Present students with general information about living and studying at UoH;
  • Provide information on the range of services and facilities available both on and off the campus;
  • Offer some advice on strategies for getting the most out of studying at UoH so that students succeed academically;
  • And above all, the orientation programme offers plenty of opportunities to meet fellow international students.
