The University of Hyderabad is ranked number one in the country for its teaching and research activities. The Centre for Earth & Space Sciences at University of Hyderabad, established in 2004, is focusing on teaching mineral exploration programmes, and pursuing high quality research in various fields of Earth Sciences. The hallmark of the Centre, indeed, lies in using synergy between the Earth - Oceanic and Atmospheric realms, Space and Information Sciences to project the digital divide and promote knowledge-driven and job-led economic development of the country. The Centre is striving to impart competitive and quality training in the field of mineral exploration in collaboration with various R & D Institutes (Atomic Mineral Directorate, National Geophysical Research Institute), Industry (Baldota Foundation, NMDC) and Academia besides overseas Institutions such as the University of Oklahoma & Rice University. The Centre is determined to impart knowledge and training in exploration strategies to sustain natural resources of the country.
UGC has recognized the Centre and granted Faculty and research fund through their Innovative Research Program.
The Centre is planning to introduce new teaching programmes in 5-year Integrated M.Sc. in Earth Sciences, 2-year M. Sc in Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences from the academic year 2012, and 2-year M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences in 2013.
