The MA Programme has been designed to expose students to alternative paradigms of economic theory and their application to contemporary national and international problems .Training is imparted in the use of quantitative and analytical techniques. MA economics is a full-time programme spread over 2 years and is divided into 4 semesters .The programme of study consists of 10 core courses which are compulsory and 6 are elective courses. Each of these carry 100 marks and students are ordinarily required to do our courses each semester.

ISSUES IN FISCAL POLICY
The University follows a credit system and a student can opt for a limited number of courses from other disciplines. The students are also permitted to do extra courses as either credit of audit courses.
M.Phil. is a one‑year programme consisting of course work and dissertation. The course work places emphasis on: a) recent advances in selected areas of economics, b) literature in the chosen area of research and, c) proficiency in research methodology of economics. Students are required to do course work in the first semester. During the remaining part of the programme, they are expected to write a dissertaion.
The Ph.D. programme consists mainly of research work (with provision for course work, whenever necessary) leading to a thesis on an approved topic. The thesis will be of a high standard seen as a contribution to knowledge and will be defended in an open viva-voce.
